Sanderson developed an affinity for medicine early, and upon entering college he elected to get a Bachelor of Science degree in respiratory therapy with a minor in chemistry. After graduating from Texas State University with honors, he was accepted to medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He graduated medical school in the top 20% of his class and obtained a residency in the highly competitive field of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. Immediately after completing medical school Dr. Sanderson volunteered to serve in the United States Army Reserve and has served proudly for 13 years, including one combat deployment to Iraq. He currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Dr. Sanderson completed his surgical internship at the University of Tennessee in Memphis and completed his otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He is board-certified in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery and his intricate understanding of the facial and nasal anatomy, provided by otolaryngology, prepared him well for his plastic surgery training.
After completing his training in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, he continued his training with a second residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He chose the University of Nebraska for its strong aesthetic surgery program. During his plastic surgery residency, Dr. Sanderson acquired two years of intensive plastic surgery instruction with a focus on cosmetic/aesthetic surgery, breast reconstruction, microsurgery, wound surgery, and reconstruction of defects left from skin cancer excisions. reconstruction of defects left from skin cancer excisions.

Dr. Sanderson is board-certified in plastic surgery and otolaryngology and has more than 13 years of medical and surgical experience, but his personal and approachable demeanor and genuine care for his patients is what separates him.
